How to Hit a 7-10 Split

The 7-10 split, bowlers everywhere throw their arms up and look to the sky in a classic "Why?!" moment when this combination of pins is set before them. Bowling, like any sport, takes dedication and determination. Long hours of practice endeavor bowlers to avoid the 7-10 combination, but sometimes, it is just going to happen. Read on to improve your game, including successfully completing the split.

1. First: Why did you leave a 7-10 split?

   A valid question, you were the one that hit the pins down to leave the 7-10. Leaving the split is usually the result of hitting the pins too weakly and too lightly. Additionally, your line of release is probably off. During practice, align yourself properly, and make sure your releases are strong and hard.

2. Second: What pin should you hit, the 7 or the 10?

   This depends. Some experts suggest hitting the pin that you are most comfortable with, and you may just get lucky enough for it to come back out. Others state that hitting the pin opposite of the lane of the ball return, garners a positive result. The pit is shallower on that side of the lane causing the pin and the ball to bounce out. A third suggestion is to forward roll the ball, and hit the 10 pin on the left third of the pin. This causes the pin to shoot out of the back, roll on the lane and for the 10 pin to hit the 7 pin.
